The Sunshine Coast Gymnastics team closed out their inaugural meet season with an outstanding performance at the Whistler Summer Classic, held June 20 to 22, at the Whistler Athletes’ Centre. The small but mighty team competed in the Xcel Bronze divisions, showcasing skill, determination and teamwork, earning a slew of medals and bringing home the second-place team trophy.
Brooke Graversen, Joanie Wood, and Makena Hull led the charge, each dominating their respective age categories. All three athletes secured gold medals in three events and silver in their fourth, clinching first place in the all-around standings. Their precision and poise set the tone for an exceptional team showing.
Avery Torgunrud also shone brightly, earning second on vault, first on uneven bars, third on balance beam and second in the all-around. Lennon Budd-Blake claimed second on bars, while Maya Roberts took second on floor. Amelii Friesen secured third on vault and Zia Johnson rounded out the team’s impressive medal haul with third on floor.
Our interclub gymnasts also made a strong impression, performing confident routines in their non-ranked, personal achievement category. These athletes delivered standout performances across all apparatus, earning numerous gold scores (the highest) for their skill and artistry. Their poise and enthusiasm highlighted the depth of talent within our program and set a positive tone for future meets.
Sunshine Coast Gymnastics is proud of its athletes’ achievements and grateful for the support of families, coaches, and the local community.
