Now that I have your attention, I want to guide that attention over to the fact that the Roberts Creek Community Association is offering up a $500 bursary again! This award is open to local students currently residing in Roberts Creek who graduate from Elphi or Chat this year and plan to pursue post-secondary education. To get in on this sweet action you need to send a letter of interest (probably not just “Dear RCCA, I’m interested in your free money”) and a 500-word essay on what community means to you (How hard can that be? I do it every week!). Get all that in an envelope, address it to RCCA, PO Box 261, Roberts Creek, BC, V0N 2W0, put a stamp on it and get it into the box your parents get their bills and flyers from (love me a good flyer!). Make sure it gets there by May 1, so do it today! If you know a grad who doesn’t read a newspaper, let them know. Seriously though, kudos to the RCCA for this gift to our future.

The Sunshine Coast Streamkeepers are at it again, removing the invasive plants (mostly ivy) from around our local waterways. This Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (they are out most of the last Saturdays of each month), they will be at the Lower Road bridge west of the Roberts Creek Legion, 3064 Lower Rd. Everyone that attends must wear a mask and be mindful of physical distancing throughout the event. Please bring gloves, eye protection, sturdy waterproof boots and small or large clippers (the weather says rain, so dress for that too eh?). If you have any questions send an email to [email protected] or call 604-614-9814.

Our Little Legion is slowly coming out of hibernation and looking forward to a summer filled with good times and outdoor musical extravaganzas. You can help support the #219 in a variety of ways. One is by renewing your membership; go big and renew for the next five years and get a limited edition Poppy Watch (details at legion.ca/poppy100). Refer family and friends for a chance to win a $500 Canada Post Visa gift card! New members joining before April 30 with promo code REFER at legion.ca/join-us get a chance at free money! Support both your local Scouts and Branch 219 by dropping off your clean refundable recycling at the new recycling station. There are openings on the executive team if you’re interested in volunteering, get in touch at [email protected].

We have been asked to wear a mask and to physically distance or self-isolate as required, but there are those who aren’t looking at it the right way. Think more that you are exiling yourself, in service to the realm, until the pestilence that spreads across the land can be repelled. Bear the mantle of martyrdom upon your visage, in aid to your fellow citizenry (put yer darn mask on!). This plague shall pass, and your acts of heroism shall not be forgotten.
