The 14th annual Autism Speaks Canada Walk fundraiser will take place in Richmond this Sunday, Sept. 25.

Community members will be gathering at Pacific Autism Family Network Centre on 3688 Cessna Drive by Russ Baker Way near the Pacific Gateway Hotel to walk two kilometers to raise funds.

Participants will also enjoy a day of family-friendly activities, including lawn games, arts and crafts, a martial arts demonstration by Sirota’s Alchymy, performances by Mayday Club Youth Choir and meet and greets with Richmond's emergency responders.

All participants who raise over $100 will receive a commemorative WALK wrist wallet.

The annual event is held in cities across Canada and it aims to bring the community and promote "social inclusion and acceptance of people with autism." So far, over $40,000 has been raised for the upcoming Richmond event.

Autism Speaks Canada is dedicated to "promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families" by collaborating with community partners, improving resources and services, raising awareness and inclusion of people with autism spectrum disorder, as well as advancing research.

Registration will open at 10 a.m. and the walk is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Details for the event and a donation link are available on the event website, where participants can also learn more about this year's Richmond Walk ambassador, Erin, through her Q&A.
