Tyler Gentry paints the magic

Mixal Lake

Tyler Gentry is one of the many Coast artists who create magical paintings that have been inspired by the spiritual aspects of nature.

His pieces reflect quality over quantity – he paints at a slow rate but the works become iconic.

One of his previous paintings on show in 2012 captured the heart of Roberts Creek.

His latest painting, Lucidral Biomorphic T’selalh Reflections, is on display at the WOW Gallery in Gibsons; it depicts Mixal Lake. Gentry lived in Roberts Creek formerly and he now lives in Pender Harbour near this small lake, located on the way to Irvine’s Landing. This is Mixal Lake as you’ve never seen it: translucent offerings to the creator arise from it. The saturated colours render the blues of the lake and the greens of the forest in vivid hallucinogenic hues. On one side of the lake it appears that a forest fire is burning on land while fish and amphibians gather in the water. On the other side a lone duck swims toward a totem pole that represents the First Nations’ home on the land.

Gentry hopes to grow as an artist and tour his work within the next few years. Meanwhile he has made colourful prints of his previous pieces.

The WOW Gallery is at Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons. Phone 604-886-2909 for business hours and directions.
