The Coast Recital Society closes its 2018-19 concert season on Saturday afternoon, March 23 with a recital by the brilliant pianist Yevgeny Sudbin. The concert at the Raven’s Cry Theatre begins at 2:30 p.m.

Sudbin has been hailed by The Telegraph as “potentially one of the greatest pianists of the 21st century.” His recordings have met with critical acclaim and are regularly featured as CD of the Month by BBC Music Magazine or Editor’s Choice by Gramophone. His Scriabin recording for BIS records was awarded CD of the Year by The Telegraph and received the MIDEM Classical Award for Best Solo Instrument Recording at Cannes. It was described by Gramophone as “a disc in a million” while the International Record Review stated that Sudbin’s recording of music by Rachmaninov “confirms him as one of the most important pianistic talents of our time.” Sudbin’s disc of Scarlatti Sonatas was nominated for the Gramophone Classical Music Award. He was also nominated as Gramophone Artist of the Year in 2016. Sudbin now performs regularly in many of the world’s finest venues and concert series, both in recital and with orchestra.

Born in St Petersburg, Sudbin began his musical studies at the Specialist Music School of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, and later studied in London at Purcell School and subsequently the Royal Academy of Music. He was awarded a fellowship by the Academy and he is now a visiting professor. He lives in London with his wife and three young children and, in his spare time, he is an avid photographer.

Sudbin’s CRS recital will be a rare opportunity for music lovers on the Sunshine Coast to hear this exceptional artist. His recital program will feature music by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin and Saint-Saëns.
