Legends at Sound Studio

Art Beat

Sunshine Coast fans of Canadian rock are in for a special treat when Bryan Potvin of The Northern Pikes and Kevin Kane of The Grapes Of Wrath team up to perform their solo material and favourites at the Sound Studio in Sechelt on Dec. 27.

These bands have produced some of the catchiest and most heart-felt singles and videos. When the guitarists from each of these bands found themselves living just blocks away from one another in Toronto, it led to the two of them getting together for some casual jams.

The show happens at the Sound Studio, 5538 Wharf Ave. in Sechelt. Limited tickets are $20 and available only in advance at Strait Music in Sechelt and MELOmania in Roberts Creek.

Sacred sound

Come gather to join a passionate and visionary group of musicians and peace heartists to honour and celebrate Winter Solstice — the gift of darkness offering contrast, which allows the full spectrum of light to emerge.

Joining the group will be Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos, Lana Soleia Pallister, Mark Trevis and Jill Conway. Participants will sing some simple songs/chants and share in a deep listening, guided meditation in synchrony with the global meditation World Spirit Day and the community Unify.org. The event takes place on Dec. 21 at 2 to 4 p.m. at St. John’s United Church, 5085 Davis Bay Road in Sechelt.

In lieu of tickets, please bring a monetary donation and all proceeds will be offered to the cold weather homeless shelter in Sechelt. Suggested donation is $10. You can also donate online at: http://sccss.ca/wordpress2/coldweathershelter

Pender Harbour Choir

The Pender Harbour Choir held their Christmas concerts Dec. 5 in Davis Bay and Dec. 7 in Madeira Park. The concerts were well-attended and featured striking seasonal music by Canadian composers and arrangers, including two from Pender Harbour. Kenneth Johnson’s Christmas Lullaby, a song from his stage production Castles in the Snow, was premiered by the choir and directed by him. Corlynn Hanney’s Christmas Angel was also a lovely addition to the program. The 34-member choir is directed by Joy Macleod and accompanied by Paula Seward.
