Gemini perform to support St. Hilda’s

Living Faith Lutheran Church
Gemini
Gemini is Val and Julie Rutter. They perform on June 9 at Living Faith Lutheran Church.

Gemini and Living Faith Lutheran Church are celebrating 15 years of musical collaboration with a concert to support St. Hilda’s Restoration Fund. Well-known twin sisters, Valerie and Julie Rutter, the multi-talented musicians who are Gemini, transfix audiences with their uncanny ability to synchronize so naturally. They have a reputation for passionate, committed playing, for sensitive musical artistry, and for sharing their genuine love and joy of music-making with their audiences. The intimate space and excellent acoustics at Living Faith, the little white church in Davis Bay, will enhance their performance. Refreshments will be provided and donated art work will be for sale.

On June 9 at 2:30 p.m., Val and Julie will be performing an eclectic and entertaining programme for a summer afternoon, featuring piano-four-hands, flute and piano, recorder and piano as well as flute and recorder. The popular selections include Renaissance to Rutter, Folk to French Impressionism and Baroque to Broadway. They also provide informative descriptions of the music and instruments, interwoven with amusing and entertaining anecdotes.

Val and Julie have enjoyed extensive performing careers in Europe and North America. Born and educated in England, the gifted twins received eight diplomas with first-class honours and distinction on their dual instruments, as well as numerous prizes as soloists and chamber musicians. They have given recitals in countless concert series and music festivals. Their first CD, Dances for Duo, was nominated for best classical album in the West Coast Music Awards. Gemini are often heard on CBC radio and have been featured soloists with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and the Victoria and Edmonton Symphonies. They feel blessed to have lived on the Coast for almost 25 years enjoying teaching students of all ages and levels.
