Based on Garrard Conley’s best selling memoir of the same name, Boy Erased tells the story of Jared (Lucas Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor, who is outed to his parents (Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe). Deeply upset, they force him to attend a conversion therapy program or be permanently shunned by his family, his friends, and his faith.

It is a true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while questioning every aspect of his identity.

Boy Erased received numerous award nominations and wins, including a Golden Globe Best Actor nomination for Hedges.

It shines a much-needed light on the controversial practice of conversion therapy, which still exists in the world today, including here in Canada.

The Sunshine Coast Film Society presents Boy Erased Thursday, Feb. 13, 2 p.m. at Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt, and Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 17 and 18, 7:30 p.m. at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse.
