ReelTime Celtic Ensemble performs on Nov. 18, 7 p.m. at St. John’s United Church.

St. Hilda’s Anglican Church is inviting the community to celebrate St. Hilda’s Day at the ReelTime Celtic Ensemble concert on Nov. 18, 7 p.m. at St. John’s United Church in Davis Bay.

“Hilda was a woman ahead of her time who founded and ruled a monastery for both men and women, and brokered peace between powerful Roman imperial forces and local Christian expressions. It is fitting to honour her on her feast day with the uplifting music from ReelTime Celtic Ensemble,” said the Rev. Clarence Li, rector of St. Hilda’s.

ReelTime has been playing music together for over 25 years. Their repertoire spans Celtic, Ukrainian, Brazilian and occasionally jazz. They have performed for contra dances, St. Patrick’s Day, Celtic church services, various community events as well as many sessions playing music with friends. Members of the ensemble Heidi Kurz, Bud Kurz, Sheila Allan and Scott Alpen will lead the audience onto a musical journey of rootsy Celtic tunes accompanied by flutes, whistles, Celtic harp, guitar, violin, bodhrán and percussion.

The concert is the first installment of St. Hilda’s 2017-18 recital series Music Arising. Many thanks to St. John’s United Church for offering the concert space while St. Hilda’s sanctuary is under renovation. Admission to the concert will be by donation.

For more information, please contact music director Katherine Hume at 604-885-2069 or khpiano@telus.net or St. Hilda’s office at 604-885-5019. St. John’s United Church is located at 5085 Davis Bay Road.
