Hawaiian elder and keeper of knowledge Puna Kalama Dawson is coming to the Sunshine Coast to share hula and Hawaiian culture at a public event and a series of hula classes.

Puna is a traditional Kumu Hula (hula master teacher), award-winning composer and recording artist who perpetuates Hawaiian culture and the aloha spirit worldwide.

The public is invited to share in Puna’s charismatic presence at Aloha Mai, an evening of hula, chant, talk story and aloha on Saturday Nov. 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Bay Hall. Suggested donation is $15/$20.

Leading up to this public event, Puna will be offering daily Hawaiian hula classes, both in the daytime and evening, from Friday, Nov. 9 to Saturday, Nov. 17. Anyone who has a basic knowledge of hula steps and hip movements and would like to deepen their knowledge, is invited to register for some or all of these traditional Hawaiian hula classes.
