The annual High Tea event will be held on Saturday, May 25, 1 to 3 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Gibsons, 711 Park Rd. This year promises to be special fun with comedian, singer-songwriter, and inspirational speaker, Wendy Farha. As always, there’ll be delicious High Tea luncheon fare, door prizes and fun – but you’ll want to see more of this performer.

Born and raised in Montreal, Farha began her career as a singer-songwriter in the late 70s. (She swears she was only two years old at the time, but we all know better.) Soon she was taking her freshly composed songs to sing in coffeehouses, churches, hospitals and prisons all around the city. Farha performed in hundreds of venues across Canada, the United States, the West Indies and Europe, singing mostly quiet and reflective pieces that speak of living, loving, and surviving in a broken world. In the past few years, Farha’s comedic side has come increasingly to the fore. Her performances include raw, honest songs blended with hilarious stories, banter, jokes, and impersonations.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2009, Farha was not stopped in her comedic tracks. True to form, she invented a truckload of new jokes for the listening pleasure of her audiences: “Don’t think of it as a bilateral mastectomy I had, people. It was my corporate downsizing!"

Wendy Farha’s songs and comedy are a treasure not to be missed. You'll be inspired, you'll laugh, you'll cry – and when the afternoon is over, you'll wish you could hear more. One afternoon of comedy and music with Farha is never quite enough. Tickets for the High Tea are $15 and always go quickly, so get yours at Laedeli in Sunnycrest Mall. Ticket sales end May 21.
