Halloween will not be quite the same this year, thanks to the pandemic.

Trick-or-treating in the traditional door-to-door manner could be at a minimum this year, so some imaginative alternatives are in the works. Check Coast Reporter’s Community Calendar for all the possibilities.

Among them is “an immersive outdoor experience” planned for Gibsons Heritage Farm. An eerie atmosphere, with performances excerpted from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Macbeth, fire-spinners, candy stations for the kids, “and other awesome stuff” are promised as participants are guided around the five-acre property on Henry Road. Performances are at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, Friday the 30th, and Saturday the 31st. Safety masks required. Suitable for kids aged eight and older. Details and ticket info at [email protected].

On Saturday, Oct. 31, the Clubhouse Restaurant at the Pender Harbour Golf Course is putting on a Rocky Horror Picture Dinner Show, featuring a screening of outrageous 1975 film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a three-course meal, and prizes, including one for best in-character costume. The evening runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Only 40 tickets to be sold. Get them at 604-883-9542.

Guilty pleasure

High Beam Dreams is hosting a concert entitled A Guilty Pleasure (Music from the Dirty Thirties to Today), featuring Coast vocalist Joanne Chiasson at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Chiasson’s performances touch on styles from classic rock to Broadway tunes. Tickets at Eventbrite.ca

More live music

On Friday, Oct. 30, singer-songwriter-guitarist Joe Stanton performs a dinner-hour show at the Pender Harbour Golf Course’s Clubhouse Restaurant, from 5 to 8 p.m. On Sunday, Nov. 1 Half-Cut & The Slackers play their classic and modern top-40 covers at the Clubhouse from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Finn Bay books

Sechelt’s Ken Custance advises that he’s put out a sequel to his first novel, Finn Bay: The Beginning of the End of the Road. The second book, Finn Bay Too; All Over the Map, picks up the story and follows the characters through their teen years and beyond. The books are available at Talewind Books in Sechelt and on Amazon.

Custance, writing under the pen name Kenn L. Conscience, writes in a style all his own. You can check out a brief preview on Amazon.

Due to the pandemic, all listed live events are subject to change. Check ahead.
