Four women writers, Bernadette Calonego, Heather Conn, Jan DeGrass and Janice Williams – and maybe you, too – will tell their stories at Gibsons Public Art Gallery on Saturday, Feb. 23 about finding love in a foreign land. The writers are inviting members of the audience to come up and share their own five-minute stories on the subject. The event will go from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. “We’ll have a well-stocked book table for you to browse,” DeGrass added.

Fiddler on the Roof

The SD46 Music Theatre Ensemble’s biggest show ever, Fiddler on the Roof, premieres on Friday Feb. 22 at the Chatelech Secondary School Theatre in Sechelt. A cast and crew of 66 students have been rehearsing since September to mount this live-music production of the Broadway hit. There will be six shows over two weekends, five starting at 7 p.m., with one matinée, on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. The final show is on Saturday, March 2. Tickets are $10 at Laedeli Gifts and Cards in Gibsons, Strait Music in Sechelt and the Madeira Park IGA.

Boudoir Rouge

Burlesque over the past few centuries has ranged from the high athletic art of Parisian can-can to down-market roadhouse strip shows. Boudoir Rouge Burlesque offers its own wholesome and emancipating take. “The intention,” the group says on its website, “is to provide space for women to break open and connect to a level of self-love, confidence and body acceptance through play, creative expression and movement.” Duane Burnett will emcee, and Buzy B deejays the dance after the show. It’s at Roberts Creek Hall Saturday, Feb. 23. Doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m. Tickets are at www.share-there.com.

Go viral

In its continuing Business of Art series, the Sunshine Coast Arts Council (SCAC) is holding a workshop on making the best use of social media platforms for artists: “How to determine your target audience, create a base of followers, set up a social media calendar, and more!” Meaghan Flood will be the facilitator. Sunday Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. Please register through the SCAC website. $15 for members, $25 for non-members at the Arts Centre, at Trail and Medusa in Sechelt.

112 Weddings

It’s Hoovie Movie night again at Gibsons Public Market on Sunday, Feb. 24, where they’ll be screening the documentary 112 Weddings. It’s by filmmaker Doug Block, who used to do wedding videos to supplement his income. “Years after their big day, he decides to follow up with some of his past clients, having long wondered what’s become of their marriages and to get their perspective on love and marriage.” In addition to theatre-style seating, the Market is offering candle-lit tables for early arrivals. The screening will be in the Coastal Room upstairs, which should provide a cozier ambience and better audio than the atrium, where the first Hoovie Movie was shown last month. Doors at 6 p.m., film at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12, $10 or $5 from the Hoovie Movie website.

Shout Out!

There are just a few weeks left to prepare entries to the Gibsons Public Art Gallery’s Young People’s Art Show. This is the tenth year of the event, which exhibits works from Sunshine Coast youth, from toddlers to 18 year olds. “Every applicant who submits is assured of a place in the show. The artworks are displayed to be seen at every eye level,” the gallery says. The show runs from March 14 to April 7, but submissions – two pieces from each entrant, in any medium – must be made at the Marine Drive gallery between 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, and Sunday, March 10 at 4 p.m. Works need to be accompanied by an entry form, which can be obtained at libraries and schools or downloaded from www.gpag.ca/submissions.
