Shaun Rawlins and Tyler Bartfai perform at the 101 Brewhouse + Distillery on Friday, and at Persephone Brewing on Sunday.

• The Lower Mainland’s Shaun Rawlins and Powell River singer-songwriter Tyler Bartfai cite blues, folk and pop influences ranging from City and Color to Bob Dylan. They have toured Western Canada together for the past two years with each doing his own set in their “co-headlined” shows. They’ll be performing at the 101 Brewhouse + Distillery in Gibsons on Friday, July 26 at 8 p.m. $10. Rawlins and Bartfai also will do some lunchtime sets at Persephone Brewing on Sunday, July 28 from noon to 2 p.m.

• On Friday, July 26, at the Roberts Creek Legion, Staggers and Jaggs roll out their rollicking show in a genre they describe as “spicy spaghetti and saloon swing.” The five-piece Vancouver band promises to “make your eyes pop, cure your toothaches, empty your pockets, and liberate you from the confinement of your clothing.” What more can we ask? 8 p.m. Tickets at the door.

• Gibsons singer-songwriter Lowry Olafson performs house concerts as part of his broad professional repertoire. On Saturday, July 27, the gig is on the lawn at his own oceanfront home at 2 p.m. Email lowry@lowryolafson.com for the details and address.

• At the free Sechelt Summer Music Series on Saturday, Kirin Lamb and William Chernoff will be on the stage by the library at noon, followed by Old Yeller at 1 p.m.

• As Coast Reporter’s Sophie Woodrooffe writes this week (see page 10) the first-ever Gibsons Lantern Festival happens Saturday evening at Winegarden Park. Music at the event has singer-songwriter Jim Foster opening for Juno-winning jazz guitarist Michael Occhipinti, while down at the Gazebo on the Wharf, locals Karen Graves on sax and guitarist Budge Schachte entertain.

• It’s a triple play in Roberts Creek on Sunday, July 28, with the relaxed, afternoon ambience of Slow Sundays, at the gazebo behind the library, offering activities, snacks and, of course, music from noon to 4 p.m. This week it’s the Loose Endings Ukulele Ensemble, bluegrass from Out of the Blue, and the Monty Montego Reggae Band

• Later at the Gumboot Café, Michael Occhipinti sits in, as he often does, with the Lester McLean Band for some “old school soul and funky originals.” Doors at 7 p.m.

• Down on the pier in the Creek on Sunday evening, guitarist James Bowers conducts another of his soaring Sunset Serenades, from 8 p.m. to sunset, weather permitting (which is looking good for Sunday).

Looking ahead

The monthly School of Music Coffee House in Madeira Park will be a week early in August in order to be part of the long-weekend Pender Harbour Days festival. On the playbill on Friday, Aug. 2, starting at 8 p.m., will be singer, songwriter and pianist Katrina Bishop; the harmonies and guitar of Joan and Ted; jazz standards and oldies with the piano and vocals of Shine; and singer-songwriter Simon Paradis.
