Tla’amin Nation is reporting no new COVID-19 positive cases at this time.

According to a media release from Tla’amin, the total COVID-19 positive cases since September 7 remains at 37. Members continue to be cleared by Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), however, VCH has stated that it is unable to provide clearance details due to system pressures.

“As the nation continues to see recoveries and fewer new cases, we feel we are in a good position to allow our local state of emergency to expire,” stated hegus Clint Williams. “We are trusting that our residents and guests to our nation will continue to use their best judgment and follow all local, provincial and federal health orders. We are in this together.”

Tla’amin Nation has allowed the local state of emergency order to expire at midnight, ending on October 6. The measure will be lifted on October 7.

Extraordinary measures enacted as part of the local state of emergency will also be lifted. The release stated that staff will begin removing barriers from access roads to the community. The fire ban in effect for Tla’amin will also be lifted. Members must continue to follow all provincial fire regulations and restrictions.

Measures that will remain in place include signage on all roads advising that Tla’amin remains closed to non-residents and the continuation of nightly patrols from 4 pm until midnight, from Monday to Friday, and 8 am to midnight, Saturday and Sunday, the release stated.

Community members must refrain from hosting or attending gatherings, according to the release. While the local state of emergency order is expiring, members are reminded that gatherings of any size can expose them to COVID-19.

“In order to keep yourselves, your families and your friends safe, please refrain from hosting or attending any gatherings or parties on or off Tla’amin Nation lands,” the release stated. “Dr. Bonnie Henry has suggested that this weekend’s Thanksgiving gatherings be limited to a maximum of six people. We ask that all Tla’amin members continue to practice COVID-19 safety measures.

“These measures include keeping sick children home from school, wearing a mask at all times when dealing with the public, washing your hands regularly and using hand sanitizer. Please continue to practice physical distancing and stay home if you are feeling sick or unwell.”

COVID-19 testing is available by appointment at Tla’amin Health. Those contacted by health officials must abide by the mandatory self-isolation protocols and timelines. For more information on testing, call 604.483.3009.
