Suncoast Woodcrafters Guild celebrated a memorable evening recently to mark their 15th anniversary.
The guild was founded in 2004 by the efforts of Brian Lucas and Tom Hourigan to promote the skill and craft of woodworking in all facets, through education, information and fellowship.
Over the years, club members, male and female and from diverse backgrounds, have participated in a number of community events, including the Botanical Garden Harvest Festival and Community Forest Wood Expo.
An annual tradition since 2004 in keeping with the Christmas spirit, the Woodcrafters build and donate wooden toys and gifts to the Sunshine Coast Community Services Society for distribution to disadvantaged children and families in the region.
A generous grant from Sunshine Coast Regional District’s grant-in-aid program, and big-hearted donations from Lehigh Materials and from Sunshine Coast Community Forest make it possible to purchase materials to build these special toys and gifts.
Members meet every third Tuesday (except July and August) at 7 p.m. at Chatelech Secondary School in Sechelt to share information and projects. They host presentations by members and outside resources.
Anyone interested in woodworking is invited to the meetings. More information is available at www.suncoastwoodcrafters.com
