The popular Sandcastle Competition in Davis Bay drew 38 entries this year, making it one of the biggest to date. Organized by the Sunshine Coast Lions Club, the July 14 event drew hundreds of spectators throughout the day. Jim Taylor provided catchy tunes, the Lions hosted a busy burger bar, and the Roberts Creek Scouts spun cotton candy as a fundraiser for their group.

Organizers said there was a notable increase in the number of youth participating this year, and that the quality of the sandy structures was superior.

Once the winners were announced, builders of the ephemeral art enjoyed stomping through their creations as the tide crept in.
