The Salvation Army held its second annual Christmas kettle volunteer appreciation luncheon on Sunday, Jan. 29, in Gibsons.

Major Sandra Rowsell welcomed the volunteers and thanked them for their support in making the 2011 kettle campaign a successful one.

Volunteers enjoyed a wonderful meal and entertainment.

Kettle co-ordinator Ingeborg Hardman gave a visual presentation of the volunteers on the kettles, and guest speaker Major Brian Venables gave an uplifting talk. Rowsell thanked Hardman for her efforts with the Kettle Campaign and Matthew Hardman, Family Services Worker, for all his hard work throughout the year.

Rowsell said all funds from the kettles stay here on the Coast and allow the Salvation Army to help those in need. Some of the programs running are Lunch with Friends, Tuesday and Friday Food Bank, and bread and produce Monday to Friday.

The Sunshine Coast Salvation Army also has an emergency disaster service van that is in place to support emergency responders in the event of an emergency or disaster.

The Salvation Army sends kids to camp and, starting soon, will be offering a food skills program for families.

Rowsell commented that none of these programs would be possible without the support of the community and volunteers.

"We owe all the thanks to everyone who helped with the kettles and those who willingly gave," she said.
