The six Rotary Clubs of the Sunshine Coast came together on Saturday night for their fundraising Rotary Foundation Dinner with Rotarians from nine clubs in total across the Lower Mainland attending the event at the Blue Heron Inn in Sechelt.

The Rotary Foundation is a charitable arm of Rotary. Funds from the foundation help communities around the world and provide matching funds and grants for a large number of Rotary programs including here on the Coast.

This was the first time the clubs joined together for this fundraising event. They were treated to an amazing meal at the Blue Heron and entertainment by Joe Stanton before hearing from the current Rotary 5040 District Governor, Darcy Long, a member of the Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast – Sechelt about the many projects that are supported by the funds collected by events such as this.

“First and foremost this was a great event for fellowship and to enjoy an evening meeting Rotarians from all six clubs on the Sunshine Coast. Growing the awareness of the importance of supporting the Rotary Foundation, and to raise funds for Foundation was really an added bonus,” said Laurie Reid, one of the event organizers.

With over 70 Rotarians and guests at the sold out event this year, it is likely to continue next year with the event moving to Powell River for 2020.
