Sunshine Coast Community Foundation is launching a new grants program inspired by its 2019 Vital Brief. The Intentional Grants program will offer up to $40,000 to support organizations, programs or projects that address three of the priorities identified in the Vital Brief.

They are: housing affordability, food security, and mental health and addiction services.

The foundation board chose these three priorities after reviewing the 2019 Vital Brief and previous Vital Signs reports going back to 2009.

“Our board and grants committee wants to help to address the ongoing challenges faced by vulnerable populations on the Coast,” said board chair Vicki Dobbyn. “Grants of up to $40,000 are available for initiatives that address one or more of these priorities. And successful applicants will be eligible for the same funding for two additional years without having to reapply.”

By offering larger grants for multiple years and removing some of the restrictions that apply to smaller grants, the Community Foundation is hoping to increase community capacity to address some of the region’s long-standing issues.

The new intentional grants stream is in addition to the responsive grants stream, where local charities can apply for up to $7,500 for projects that address a variety of community needs and opportunities.

The foundation is accepting letters of intent until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28 for both its responsive and intentional grants streams. For more information, see www.sccfoundation.com
