Les Petits du Pacifique open at last

After years of planning and preparing, the first French childcare centre is now open in Sechelt.

Based in École du Pacifique, the centre opened its doors in early January to a near full capacity. The dedicated parents and teachers who have been working on this since 2007 are thrilled to see their dream fulfilled.

The licensed centre accommodates children from 30 months to five years of age and is an excellent stepping stone for those children starting in French kindergarten the next year. There has been tremendous support from the Francophone School District No. 93 and Francophone Parents' Association, and also from School District No. 46, which approved renovations for the childcare room within the school.

The centre is currently open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is planning on a full-time schedule next school year. There are only a few spaces left in the program, which speaks volumes about the need for childcare on the Coast.

The board members have been fundraising tirelessly over the past three years. A major fundraising event was their second annual Valentine's Dance and Soirée fundraiser held last Saturday night at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre. It was a huge success.
