Food Drive needs volunteers

Organizers of the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive are looking for volunteers to help with this year’s drive, scheduled for the week prior to Saturday, Sept. 15.

The annual event helps fill the shelves of food banks on the Sunshine Coast: St. Bart’s, Salvation Army and Sechelt Food Bank.

Volunteers are needed to distribute bags and flyers to homes and also to be part of the pickup crew on collection day.

"Each volunteer is asked to give one to six hours on two days for this highly rewarding community work," said organizer Burns Matkin.

There is no soliciting, door knocking or disturbing of homeowners; bags are simply left on the porch. Homeowners can participate if they want to by filling the bag with non-perishables and leaving it on the doorstep in plain sight.

To volunteer, email Matkin at blmmatkin@gmail.com or call or text him at 778-838-6039.
