The 4th Annual Sechelt Electric Vehicle Festival held on Sept. 15 attracted over 1,000 people who took the opportunity to meet owners and admire the latest in automotive transportation.

A total of 45 electric cars joined the event, including all major EV modes in production currently. All Tesla models, including the new Model 3, were on display as were Chevy Bolt and Volt models, Fiat 500s, Kia Souls, BMW i3s, Nissan Leafs, Ford Focus EV, VW eGolf, Mitsubisi Outlanders and MiEVs and more. In addition, an electric motorcycle was on display as well as a prototype vehicle from Lang Labs.

Several residents enjoyed the show while riding their electric scooters and test drives on electric scooters were a big hit.

Owners came from all parts of the Coast, Vancouver and as far away as Minnesota. One of the highlights of the festival was the Tesla Model X “dance” which is hidden in the computer system of the car and, when activated, plays music, flashes lights and flaps the falcon wing doors.

The organizers thank Trail Bay Centre for allowing the event to take place on their premises and also their major sponsors: BC Hydro, CEV for BC, Haley GM, North Shore Kia, Coast Reporter, Sechelt Downtown Business Association, Urban Machina, Olson Electric, Sechelt Chamber of Commerce and Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association.

Sechelt’s Annual EV Festival occurs every September as part of the International Drive Electric Week, which promotes the role of electric vehicles in the fight against climate change. It aims to connect EV owners from around the world. For more information visit secheltispluggedin.com.
