Sunshine Coast ElderCollege has announced the recipients of its newly introduced bursary program for deserving Capilano University students from the Sunshine Coast. Capilano University collaborates with ElderCollege to select the recipients and administer the bursaries, which totalled $3,000 in 2018.

The Linda Pelton-Duff Memorial Bursary recognizes and commemorates Pelton-Duff’s contribution to the work of ElderCollege and was awarded by the North Vancouver campus of Capilano University to two students who studied for and received Health Care Assistant Certificates, Heather Fike and Rathaporn Pawakanum.

ElderCollege bursaries awarded by the Sechelt Campus of Capilano University have gone to Rachel Bowering, who is studying Business Administration, and Bryn Moss, who is studying to become a Health Care Aide.

ElderCollege believes that supporting the post-secondary educational goals and needs of students on the Sunshine Coast is a meaningful way to give back to the community that fits well within its educational mandate.

ElderCollege is a group of people age 55-plus with a zest for life and learning whose volunteers put on courses each spring and fall semester. Course registration is through the Sunshine Coast Regional District. ElderCollege course revenue is directed to registration costs, course advertising, free community events and bursaries through Capilano University to deserving students of any age.
