Roberts Creek is about to launch into its 41st Creek Daze, the zany festival of everything Creek, on Saturday, Aug. 10 from noon to 5 p.m. at Roberts Creek Elementary School, with the traditional Higgledy Piggledy parade setting off from Kraus Road at 11:11 a.m. This year Creek Daze will be quite different with a Country Fair theme.

But if fun rides, a dunk tank, cotton candy galore, a bouncy castle, petting zoo, and so on aren’t your “thing,” how about a chance to do your Christmas shopping early and locally? The vendors who have signed up to sell their wares this year will be an amazing gathering of talent and imagination with everything for sale from taxidermy to tattoos. There are handmade gifts from the Grandmothers to Grandothers. Wolfpups Studio will sell their unique animal printed shirts and hoodies, and also host a clothing swap (bring clean used clothing to trade). Other clothing includes Alchemy’s beautiful organic cotton and silk, ethically and sustainably produced fashion, and Agnes Studio’s natural dye handmade garments and crafts. There will be at least two studios with beautiful, functional pottery for sale. Custom woodworks, funky jewelry, kaleidoscopes, soap, and games. Like a mini Art Crawl all in one place.

If you aren’t quite ready for Christmas shopping and you don’t want to be dunked in the dunk tank, how about just kicking back and listening to a day of music either at the Country Fair or at the Beer Garden behind the library. Some of the musicians who will be there might include the Jeevious Family, Dally Mon, Whiskey Business, Back Porch Reunion, Mack Avery, and many others. There will also be a fine selection of food to sustain the fun. And don’t forget the amazing book sale at the library.

One word of advice from the Daze organizers: try to leave your car at home. Parking will be extremely limited and there will be a shuttle bus running every half hour from Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons.
