CHILD AND YOUTH IN CARE: The first week of June was Child and Youth In Care Week in B.C. and several agencies got together June 3 in Sechelt for a mini parade to mark the occasion. Representatives from the Ministry of Children and Family Development, SCCSS youth services/youth outreach and Sechelt Courthouse Sheriff Services were among the participants, along with Sechelt Mayor Darnelda Siegers. In 2011, youth in and from care advocated for this week so their siblings in care could grow up feeling celebrated for their diverse talents and accomplishments, surrounded by a supportive community. They also wanted to raise awareness about the barriers they face and fight the stigma that comes with being a “foster kid."
