For a resilient garden, choose plants that shine in spite of changeable weather.

You have surely noticed how the seasonal weather is less predictable, making gardening more of a challenge. Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden offers a three-evening workshop, Planning Your Resilient Garden in a Changing Climate, on Thursday evenings March 7, 14 and 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Two experienced gardeners, Paddy Wales and Sheila Watkins, developed the Resilient Garden workshop for gardeners who want to give their plants and gardens a chance to thrive despite unreliable weather patterns. Included are new ways to assess your garden’s strengths and vulnerabilities, sensible tips and practices to minimize plant stress, and begin your personal strategy for a healthy garden in more extremes of weather.

Preregistration is required as space is very limited. Call 604-740-3969 or email [email protected] to register for all three sessions. Cost is $50 for Botanical Garden members, $60 for non-members.

Become a keen observer of how plants are affected by such unexpected weather as this February’s winter following January’s mild “spring.” What will the coming seasons bring? Plan needed changes to give your plants their best chance to shine. The goal is to ensure your garden remains a place you love to be.

Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden is at 5941 Mason Road, Sechelt, and is open for winter hours Friday to Monday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until April 30, with entrance by donation at the Pavilion. Members enjoy unlimited visits, discounts, plus many extra perks. For information, visit www.coastbotanicalgarden.org or follow CoastBotanicalGarden on Facebook.
