It was a gala evening for princesses and kings at the annual Dad and Me Dance on Tuesday, May 14. Organized and hosted by the Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast, girls between the ages of five and 13 were honoured by their fathers with a night of great music, dance, good food and prizes.

“It’s all about having fun with the girls,” said Alex Foulis, father of two princesses, Jade and Lucy.

They enjoyed playing with the many costume props offered by Coastal Weddings and Events, which contributed a photo booth to the event again this year.

For Penny and Georgia Gibson, the “music and song selections” made it special for them. Dad, Graeme Gibson, said he appreciated the sense of community an event like this creates. “Everyone participates. Everyone dances,” he said.

Michael Kleij’s daughter Charleigh has dressed in a themed princess dress every year and she looked spectacular. “I love dancing in a princess dress,” she said.

Rotary members and Chate-lech Interact Club volunteers worked wonders making sure that all of the dads and daughters had a great time. “We love seeing the dads’ faces when they’re dancing with their daughters,” said Interact volunteer Izabelle Stevens.

The event sold out in a record four days this year and the Rotary Club is looking forward to planning for next year’s event. Every year there are more local organizations that want to contribute to the event and with all proceeds going to support both local and international community services projects, it is a win-win for the whole community.

The 50-50 draw, totaling $345, was won by Brian Lewis, father of Katarina, who also thought the best of the fun was “the dancing and, of course, the glow sticks.”

David and Emma Archer won a prize donated by Sechelt Animal Hospital and Joe and Sophia James won a prize donated by Trail Bay Source for Sports.

More photos, videos and prize winners will be posted on the Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast - Sechelt website.
