Hi everyone! Hope you all had an awesome week and a wonderful Thanksgiving. It’s typical fall weather now so hopefully you can stay dry while exploring our beautiful outdoors.

The Halfmoon Bay Elementary School held their Tom the Turkey contest last Friday. Wendy White said, “Our students found funny and creative ways to disguise Tom and help him escape being the centre of a Thanksgiving feast. This year we were able to give out one turkey per classroom, meaning nine of our kids took a frozen turkey home in their backpack to their family! We would like to give a special thank you to those community members who donated to this special event, our school community is grateful for you!” Congratulations to all the lucky turkey winners and a HUGE thank-you to our generous community!

While searching for Art Crawl locations in Halfmoon Bay, I came across this local artist who also runs a business from her home. Meet Alison Taylor, web developer and artist. Alison shared some background with me about her business and her love of painting. “I’ve made my living writing software since getting a Physics and Computing Science degree from SFU in my twenties. After graduating, I completed a second degree, part-time, in Visual Art at Emily Carr University of Art & Design.” She then began to show and sell her paintings. Although painting is a hobby for her, Alison wanted to track her creations, what items sold, who purchased them and from where. Alison began with an Excel spreadsheet, which was inefficient and tedious. She also found some software products, but they were unintuitive and unattractive, so Alison made her own website and software. “I called it ArtistClerk, because it’s like an office clerk for artists.” ArtistClerk.com is an easy, visually streamlined, interactive website for artists to track the business side of their art practice.

At present, ArtistClerk is a one-person operation, run out of her home in Halfmoon Bay. “I’m gradually adding more features to it over time. As more people sign up, I hope to be able to create employment for others, to work alongside me. ArtistClerk has been the perfect project to engage both my technical and artistic interests and has allowed me to support local art initiatives with my marketing budget.” Alison is taking this year off from the Art Crawl but her amazing creations can be viewed on her website: alisonjtaylor.com.

The Halfmoon Bay Community Association continues to work hard to reach its contribution goal of $300,000 towards the new Coopers Green Hall. Three “Raise the Roof – New Hall Campaign” signs were donated by Sechelt Signs and have been installed at both ends of Redrooffs Road and on Coopers Green Hall. The sign provides a scale of what has been raised so far and will be updated at the end of October. The association is extremely grateful to those who have donated and appreciate the support from the community and beyond. Visit their website for more information, hmbcommunity.org.
