Here is some encouraging news straight from some of our favourite places in Roberts Creek.

The Community Association has this to say: “We’re excited to announce the RC Community Market will be open this Wednesday! Market hours are 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Our market will look a little different than before so we can help keep our vendors and customers safe by adhering to BCCDC and Public Health regulations. The market will be laid out in a way that ensures customers can practise physical distancing. Signs will be posted throughout the market to help guide you. To ensure there is enough space for safe shopping, there will be a maximum number of people allowed in the market at one time. There will be hand washing stations set up to use while you shop. So far we have nine awesome vendors for you to choose from. If you’re not yet ready to come to the market, that’s OK, you can still purchase from many of our vendors through the Gibsons Farm Collective. See you on Wednesday... Yaaay!”

And from our library volunteers: “Roberts Creek Library: The Great Library Book Return! After many weeks of closure, the Roberts Creek Library will be opened for patrons to return their books at the following times: Friday, June 5, 12 to 2, Saturday, June 6, 12 to 4, and Sunday, June 7, 12 to 2. The volunteers are discussing ways to make our collection eventually and safely accessible to our many patient patrons. Our first goal, however, is to get a couple of hundred books returned to the shelves for anticipated circulation. Thanks to all the community and stay safe.”

I just got off the phone with Joe DeLeo and will share this news with you: The Gumboot Cafe is now open for take-out! Come in from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily with their full savoury menu and a choice selection of sweets (Krys FTW!). Enter via the back door and exit by the front for the feng shui flow! Yaaay!

Our Community School online has something for our young ones (and their parents!): The Early Learning department will continue to offer virtual Strong Start (for ages birth to five) through Zoom, Monday to Friday, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Songs, stories and circle time activities, fun and connection with our young ones. Check out their Sunshine Coast Strong Start Facebook page for current info. If this interests you, contact them at register4spark@sd46.bc.ca to join in.

With all that is going on right now, I sometimes need to remind myself not to take my stress out on others but to be kind to the people that I see in the community, strangers and friends alike. I also remind myself that it’s not enough to cause no harm; I must be working to actively prevent harm coming to others. We need to treat all those we meet with dignity and respect and with their safety in our hearts. Everyone has a story, but the only story I know for sure is my own.
