Roberts Creek: It’s beginning to look a lot like Creekmas

Yoga by the Sea presents Winter Solstice Sound Journey, an improvisational ode to the turning of the seasons, Friday Dec. 20, 6:30 p.m.

Yoga by the Sea presents Winter Solstice Sound Journey, an improvisational ode to the turning of the seasons, Friday Dec. 20, 6:30 p.m. Chris Niebergall and Kym Chi, along with their guests Chloe, Brynn, Soma and Tim, will reconnect you with the natural rhythms of the Earth. Tea and refreshments available before and after the event. Come early, bring your mug, blanket or pillow (a limited amount will be available) and get comfortable. A sliding scale of $10 to $25 with proceeds going to a local charity. A time to free the mind as the performers allow the sound to create itself.

Saturday the 21st it’s Latin Funk: A Winter Solstice Fiesta at the 219. It’s the longest night of the year, so let DJ El Pulpo Paola get you up on the dance floor with serious Latin dance music to keep you moving all night long. Special guest Waui, as well as sweet visuals by Operation HoneyBee. It will be a great night to be moving and grooving on the dance floor – it’s going to be a hot one! $8 members, $15 guests.

Get ready Roberts Creek! Nomad Holistic Wellness Studio is offering an introduction to the beautiful and gentle art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for adults. The eight-week program, starting Jan. 6 with Sean Yoshi Hatanaka as your guide, allows for your schedule with lunchtime and evening classes. Space is limited so register ASAP. A great gift idea. Go to thenomadstudio.ca/classes to sign up.

The Roberts Creek Library has moved some things around. A cozy new children’s area in the northern room and adult non-fiction shifted to the main room gives it a fresh feel. Keep your eyes open for continuing book sales, your way to help fund the library. The volunteer staff wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and remind you that the library will be closed Dec. 24 to 26, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. As a service to the community, the General Store will accept book returns during these closures.

The Big Ticket next week is Daniel Wesley, Friday Dec. 27 at the RC Hall, doors at 7 p.m. Daniel and his band bring the beach right up to the Hall with their Wet Coast flavour of reggae, rock, and infectious grooves. It sold out last year so get tickets while you still can through eventbrite.com.

There are a few events that shape Roberts Creek like Earth Day and Creek Daze, and the Christmas Potluck certainly ranks alongside! Our 21st annual is from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Hall, on Christmas day. This event truly defines community for me and my small family. Join your fellow Creekers for a heartwarming evening of shared food, memories and festive fun. Bring your own plate and cutlery and something to add to the potluck. Call Debra Dee to volunteer at 604-740-7738. Decorators, dishwashers and door greeters needed in brief, manageable shifts. Be the Christmas Angel! It will lift your spirits and those around you.
