Ready or not, here we go!

So a new year has dawned and as we move into the ’20s we have no idea what is in store for us.

So a new year has dawned and as we move into the ’20s we have no idea what is in store for us. Will they roar? Will they purr? Or will it all be a hairball coughed up on the carpet? All I can recommend is you start today on those things you wanted to do with the rest of your life because no one else is doing it for you. Imagine how far ahead you would be if you started a year ago? But let’s look back at the end of 2020 and see how far we have come. Good luck!

It doesn’t matter if it’s a walk on the beach, hiking through Cliff Gilker, biking down Mach Chicken or something more structured, our bodies need to move. Shop local and take advantage of the talented teachers we have, offering food for the soul, focus of the mind and great exercise to boot! Here are a couple of places you can start:

• Sean Yoshi Hatanaka at Nomad Holistic Wellness Studio has a limited number of spots available for his Introduction to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Adults. This eight-week program starts Monday, Jan. 6 with lunchtime and evening classes. Take one class a week, or take four! Be good to yourself this year – thenomadstudio.ca/classes or call 604-789-9950 to sign up.

• Yoga By The Sea will be celebrating the new year with an open house from Jan. 6-12. They are dedicated to helping you make a commitment to your self in a variety of ways. For only the cost of a food bank donation new students can try one of the free drop-in classes! They also have passes on sale: a 10 class flexi pass $150 (with no expiration), a month unlimited drop-in $110, or pick up the unlimited annual pass for $900. See Yogabythesea.ca for full details.

Thanks go out everyone who worked incredibly hard this year to make the Roberts Creek Community Christmas Dinner the exceptional example of a village celebrating together that it is. People coming together, working tirelessly for all of Roberts Creek, encapsulates the spirit of the season. Bravo!

January is Family Literacy Month! The volunteers at the Roberts Creek Library wish everyone a Happy New Year and encourage you to come in and browse their new selection of books on reading aloud to children.

The first Brainfreeze of the ’20s happens Friday, Jan. 3 at 7:45. Get there early for dinner and a show (5:30 to 7:30). This week’s entertainment is Josh Searles, solo Spanish and South American works for guitar. Wild Kitchen will be providing a special tapas menu. Dinner shows are family friendly with no cover (donations accepted). Then stick around as your hosts Sophie Woodrooffe and L Matthews test your trivia skills in the monthly contest that brings out some of the Creek’s biggest brainiacs!
