Pender Harbour & Egmont: Hiking to Rapids is over the top

Hiking on our rainforest trails, especially the famous Skookumchuck Rapids, is a spectacular treat. Now it will be over the top as the Skookumchuck Bakery and Café is open. Rachael is smiling and ready with heavenly creations and tasty drinks.

chuckbakery.ca Happy 20th anniversary to this local treasure!

Hope you have had a chance to stop by the Community Hall and take in the beautiful sign portraying the colourful heritage, the driving force of Joe Gonsalves to establish commerce and community in what is now known as Madeira Park.

This is a timely unveiling with many discussions over the name change of Madeira Park. I invite everyone concerned over the name change to visit PHARA.ca, our residents association website. “Your community association is aware of the controversy surrounding the recent proposals to change the highway signs and rename Madeira Park. In that light, PHARA, along with the Chamber of Commerce, prepared two letters: one strongly opposing the proposed name change and the second requesting a hold be put on the dual language sign implementation.” The letters are very well written and express the sentiments of many residents. You can read them on the website.

As a concerned individual you can voice your thoughts. On hand for the Gonsalves family sign unveiling, Area A SCRD representative Leonard Lee had received a scant 50 letters. Here are the email addresses. Please address your emails to geographical.
names@gov.bc.ca with copies to Area A rep, Leonard Lee, leonard.lee@scrd.ca; MLA Nicholas Simons, MLA@leg.bc.ca; and Peter Robson, board@phara.ca.

Now into Phase Two of the COVID-19 pandemic a variety of businesses are gently opening. The way of doing business is into a new era so please be careful, cautious and polite. Follow the protocol set by our government health authorities.
