Friday night, the boat parade of vintage and new craft leaves the government dock and tours the harbour. The Pender Harbour Days Coffee House at the School of Music showcase of favourite local musicians has a fantastic line up that evening. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., music starts at 8 p.m. with Katrina Bishop, singer songwriter, pianist; Joan + Ted, duo, vocal harmonies, guitar; Shine!, Nancy Pincombe, vocals, and Ken Johnson, piano; and Simon Paradis, singer, songwriter, guitarist.

Saturday will be non-stop activities, demonstrations including rescue demos, music, art food and displays at Millennium Park. The PH Paddling Society will be part of the celebration. Meet the members and try paddling on their dragon boat, a great activity for any fitness level. New applicants are welcome as there are openings. For more information, contact Jean at 604-883-0660. Harbourside Friendship, Thursday, Aug. 8 will be a musical treat when Skinny Jimmy comes to perform. Everyone is welcome! The get together starts at 10:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon. Drop in $10. Seniors Initiative weekly activities continue with Walking Mondays, 9:30 to 10 a.m., Chair Yoga at Sarah Wray Hall 11 a.m. to noon, Carpet Bowling Wednesdays at both PH and Egmont Halls 1 to 3 p.m., Chair Yoga Friday at PH Hall 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival celebrates its 15 anniversary Aug. 16 to 18 with five concerts over three days. Artistic director Alexander Tselyakov has invited a stellar group of musicians: the New Zealand String Quartet, violist Evan Hesketh, double bassist Dylan Palmer, Christie Reside and her flute, clarinetist James Campbell, Graham Campbell on guitar, and pianist Tigran Saayan who will join pianist Tselyakov. Fall Faire is back Oct. 5. There will be favourite activities and competitions in and around the Hall. Volunteers are needed to judge and help with the exhibition, chili cook-off, scarecrow competition, Hilda the cow milking competition and 50/50 draw. When you are out and about in our wonderful paradise you may notice our parks signage has been enhanced with some very special additional names encouraging the recognition and understanding of our local heritage. Katherine Lake – p’ip’k’ilich – honours the western painted turtle a precious and endangered species.
