Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week. The weather forecast noted the possibility of snow earlier this week, but we didn’t see a flake in Halfmoon Bay. Looks like rain is predicted over the next little while so stay warm and dry while we experience another wave of COVID restrictions.

The Halfmoon Bay PAC is hosting a Poinsettia Fundraiser this year and has a very easy online ordering process available. All plants are locally grown and reasonably priced. The choices include potted red or white poinsettias, indoor tropical planters, holiday wreaths and outdoor greenery arrangements, to name a few. The order deadline is Nov. 17 with pickup at the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School on Dec. 1 after 2 p.m. Go to halfmoonbayelementary.growingsmilesfundraising.com for all the information.

The Halfmoon Bay Community Association is very pleased to announce that the current funds raised for the new community hall is $309,200 with another $14,200 in pledges still to come. The association committed to raising $300k but with a very dedicated fundraising committee and a very generous community, the money raised has surpassed what was originally expected. They continue to encourage the community to donate what they can and very much appreciate businesses offering in-kind donations such as materials and labour. More information will be provided after a meeting with the SCRD this week. If you have any questions, please contact Don Cunliffe at doncunliffe@gmail.com.

This time of year may seem dark and dreary with shorter, wetter days and colder, longer nights, but I love the fall. All the amazing colours of the leaves changing and the crisp mornings with the promise of a lovely fall day. I don’t mind raking the copious amount of leaves in our yard, making piles here and there all of which are flattened by our pup as she runs through them. This seems to bring her great joy and it’s hard not to giggle at the simple pleasure of her having so much fun. November is a time to remember those who sacrificed so much, a time to tend to our gardens, a time to reflect on warmer days passed and a time to dream about the holiday season. Although it may be different for all of us this year, taking some time to enjoy all the beauty around us is very important. Take that morning coffee cup outside and watch the sun rise, take that walk in the forest and breathe the fresh air, stop and take that sunset photo as you’re driving home, and most of all, take a moment to just be.

Be kind, be gentle, be safe.
