Did you ever wonder what hardworking sole proprietors/chefs do when they have a little free time? A huge thank you to Tony Triple BBBs and his enlisted man Steve for volunteering and doing a fine job of it, keeping the Madeira Gardens looking beautiful by clearing the mountains of leaves throughout this fall season. Come for a stroll. Enjoy the best halibut and chips, burgers, poutine, shakes (shall I go on? hungry yet?) on the Coast, to go.

Yes, we have the green light. ’Tis the Season to Shop from the cozy comfort of our home. How wonderful. No crowds, parking lot angst or fighting with a wonky-wheeled shopping cart. Peace and quiet and great fun. I found the experience similar to taking a private tour of a museum in my PJs, but you get to buy what your eyes are feasting on. Some favourite places to shop now: Serendipity Christmas Craft Fair, supporting the child development society, is online until Dec. 13 and features offerings from local artisans, crafters, and chocolatiers; Earthly Creatures Design, where the lovely, talented Cindy Cantelon has a delightful Christmas collection including new irresistible jewelry with precious stones and pewter ornaments for your tree. One for a gift and one for me.

Seasonal shop safely with social distancing and protocols. FibreWorks Studio & Gallery offers a treasure trove of handcrafted unique creations. You can visit 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Santa’s elves will have to ramp up their game. Just in time for the giving season, the Loon Society’s EarthFair Store is open with books and gifts for everyone. Magnificent local artist Motoko welcomes you by appointment to her gallery for that very special gift of a lifetime, info@motoko.ca.

The Bargain Barn at the Legion is open Wednesdays and Saturdays noon to 3 p.m. with new safety protocols in place. Six customers maximum will be allowed in at a time. Please follow directions of the very dedicated volunteers. There will be special sales events through December until the final operating day of 2020, Dec. 19. Donations continue to be accepted at the Hall, Fridays 1 to 4 p.m.

If you were enticed by my rave review of Brickers Cidery and concerned about being outside in wet weather, fear not! This amazing family has installed a huge marquee tent safely covering the tables outside.

Another amazing family, Mike Gojevic and his hardworking crew, continue to bring fantastic live music to their warm and welcoming Clubhouse venue at the Pender Harbour Golf Club. We missed him in May, but here he is, back in the Harbour this Sunday, Nov. 22. Poppa Greg will take the stage 2 to 5 p.m. Reservations recommended.

The Reading Centre received a just deserved grant and has been replacing the chimney just in time for old Saint Nick to visit. Check for their opening hours.

Time to be mindful, respectful, safe and practise the simple protocols. Huge thanks to all those frontline heroes. You have carried on serving us so graciously for nine long months and are more than appreciated. Contact me with your news at dilysanne@hotmail.com for the Friday edition of the Coast Reporter.
