It’s Grey Cup weekend! Come celebrate this Canadian tradition at the Pender Harbour Legion this Sunday, Nov. 25. The party starts at 2 p.m. with fun, games, prizes and food including football fan favs, chili dogs! Enjoy the game on the big screen TVs.
The Fall Feast Community Dinner hosted by the Pender Harbour Community School is also Sunday. Doors open at 5 p.m. at the PH Community Hall. Bring the family and a dessert to share. Dinner will be provided.
Women’s Connection welcomes two guest speakers Nov. 27. Patrick Munro will give a short presentation called Keeping in Touch, an RCMP program focused on folks living on their own. Betty Spanza, Tai Chi Academy instructor will talk about the 108-move set and do a short demo. She will also demonstrate moves that can be done sitting on a chair. Tai Chi is a whole-body exercise that promotes good health and can be practised anywhere, anytime, without special equipment or clothing.
Harbourside Friendship, Thursday, Nov. 29 welcomes special guests, the Pender Harbour Choir. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. at the Hall. Lunch is served at noon for $10.
Pender Harbour welcomes the Christmas season Nov. 30 with the tree lighting in downtown Madeira Park at 5 p.m. This special Christmas tree is made from aluminum masts from commercial fish boats. Euspiria Café will have festive activities and delicious hot chocolate.
The next day, Dec. 1, is the perfect day to get out the list and enjoy Christmas shopping at Serendipity Christmas Craft Fair and the Harbour Gallery.
Serendipity will hold a two-day event with fabulous vendors, food, raffles, 50/50 draws, music and all things Christmas. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Hall.
Don’t miss the annual Christmas Sale at the Harbour Gallery. All paintings, from miniature florals to large landscapes, will be reduced for this one-day sale. There will be something for everyone’s budget. This is the final day to purchase a ticket to win this year’s collaborative work, Reconnections, a beautiful collaged piece celebrating the Sunshine Coast environment and lifestyle. The winning ticket will be drawn at 3:45 p.m. Proceeds fund the Ada Priest Memorial Bursary, awarded to a Pender Harbour graduate carrying on in the arts.
The Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary offers their annual In Lieu of Christmas Cards program. Instead of sending cards, the Auxiliary will put your name in the Coast Reporter wishing all your family and friends a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year – so easy to do! Send in your donation to the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary, PO Box 101, Madeira Park by Dec. 15 or drop off at the Serendipity Christmas Craft Fair, Dec. 1 and 2. The Auxiliary also has a call out to bakers to prepare goodies for their bake sale at the fair. Please join the Lagoon Society, Dec. 6 at the School of Music in welcoming Brian Riddell, CEO of the Pacific Salmon Foundation, to talk about the Salish Sea Marine Survival Project and upcoming initiatives planned for salmon survival. Local scientists have participated in the collection of plankton and oceanographic data for four years to gauge the health of the Salish Sea with respect to salmon. HUGS Ukulele Group will perform at 6:30 p.m., presentation is at 7 p.m. Refreshments served, by donation.
