Harbour Highlights: Fall activities ramping up

Fall is here and so are the season’s festivities. This Saturday, Sept. 29, the Legion hosts its very popular ham, turkey meat draw and pie auction starting at 3:15 p.m.

Fall is here and so are the season’s festivities. This Saturday, Sept. 29, the Legion hosts its very popular ham, turkey meat draw and pie auction starting at 3:15 p.m. In addition, there will be a separate turkey raffle and early bird draws, so get there early! 

While you’re there, pick up tickets for Ladies Night, Oct. 20 featuring live music with Playback, prime rib dinner and Calcutta. 

Keep the fun going and head on down to the Community Hall for Oktoberfest starting at 6 p.m. brought to you by the Pender Harbour Rotary. Enjoy beer and cider from our Coast’s five fantastic breweries, delicious traditional food, music and an auction, and take home your very own souvenir glass. Tickets are $35 at Harbour Insurance, Oak Tree Market, Madeira Park Veterinary Clinic and Royal LePage in Madeira Park. 

Monday, Oct. 1, the Pender Harbour Garden Club welcomes guest speaker Ayuko Inoue, master gardener, garden designer and owner of Gardens by Design. There will also be a raffle and refreshments from 1 to 3 p.m. at the School of Music. Drop in $5, membership $15. 

Seniors’ Initiative has added to the week’s activities, Chair Yoga, Tuesdays at Sarah Wray Hall 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Walking continues Mondays, Carpet Bowling Wednesdays and Chair Yoga Fridays all at the PH Hall.

Come meet your Area A candidates at Harbourside Friendship Thursday Oct. 4 starting at 10:30 a.m. 

A special event takes place Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Egmont Community Hall with Dianne Paulus and Jen Edwards of the Diabetes Outreach program. Info about diet, glycemic index and general guidelines will be available as well as blood sugar testing. Lunch served at noon. Stay for fun and games, and carpet bowling at 1 p.m. 

The death of someone in our lives is one of the most difficult situations we can face. There is relief in meeting with others who have experienced something similar. Caron Hawrychuk and Sharon Halford, trained bereavement facilitators, will be providing an eight week grief group, Thursdays, Oct. 4 to Nov. 22, 1 to 3 p.m. at the PH Health Centre. Women’s Connection will have two guest speakers Oct. 9. Olga Bear will be presenting West Coast artistry and creativity, offering an introduction to cutting and polishing semi-precious stones and their jewelry design. Jackie Zacharias of the J Crabb Studio will be displaying some of her beautiful wood carvings including her signature owls. 

The 10th annual Mushroom Festival, Oct. 12 and 13 will start off Friday night, 7 p.m. at Roberts Creek Hall with Robert Rogers presenting Medicinal Mushrooms, Magic Mushrooms and Mushroom Essences. Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the PH Hall is the big Mushroom Show. See scshroom.org for details.
