Harbour Highlights: Christmas comes to the Harbour

Christmas time in the Harbour is here! This Friday, Nov. 30, celebrate the start of the festive season at the Tree Lighting in downtown Madeira Park at 5 p.m. There will be fun and merriment and delicious hot chocolate at Euspiria Café.

Saturday, Dec. 1, the Pender Harbour Com-munity Hall will be full of Christmas magic as the Serendipity Christmas Craft Fair, a two-day extravaganza, gets underway, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. There will be fantastic vendors, raffles, 50/50 draws, food, music and pictures with Santa!

The Coast Christmas Market at John Henry’s featuring artisans, specialty foods, chocolates and more continues through Dec. 2. 

Give the gift of art this Christmas. Find the perfect piece at the Harbour Gallery during their annual Christmas one-day sale, Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Be sure to purchase one of the few tickets left to win the large collaborative piece for 2018, titled Reconnections. The winning ticket will be drawn at 3:45 p.m. 

The same day, make your way to the Sarah Wray Hall for the Vintage Christmas Market, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shop for traditions and treasures while enjoying refreshments, treats and festive music. This is a fundraising event for local community organizations. 

Saturday evening, Dec. 11, the annual Pender Harbour Rotary Hopscotch Off the Rocks event is on at the Pender Harbour Golf Club, a great evening of fine flavours and a silent auction, beginning at 7 p.m. 

Dec. 6, please join the Lagoon Society in welcoming Brian Riddell, CEO of the Pacific Salmon Foundation, presenting the Salish Sea Marine Survival Project. He will talk about the findings and upcoming initiatives planned for salmon survival. HUGS Ukulele will perform at 6:30 p.m., presentation at 7 p.m. Refreshments served, by donation. 

Seniors Initiative activities for December include all the favourites: Walking, Mondays 10:30 to 11 a.m., Chair Yoga at Sarah Wray Hall, 10:30 to 11:30 am, Carpet Bowling Wednesday, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Halls in Madeira and Egmont, Chair Yoga, Fridays 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Drop in is $3 each. 

There are also two great bus trips: Dec. 9 to the Treasure Island pantomime presented by Driftwood Players and Dec. 18 to The Nutcracker at Raven’s Cry. Call Marlene to reserve at 604-883-9900. 

Harbourside Friendship, Thursday, Dec. 6 welcomes the fabulous HUGS ukulele group. Doors open 10:30 a.m. at the Hall and lunch is served at noon.

Polar Express Christmas Light Tours are Dec. 8 and Dec. 17. Golden tickets are $5, available at John Henry’s, Harbour Insurance, and EarthFair Store. 

The Pender Harbour Community School is hosting a Baby Party! Pregnant families and families with babies are invited Dec. 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. to the Strong Start room at Madeira Park Elementary School. Come meet other new parents and community members. Snacks will be provided. 

Community Christmas Dinner, Dec. 9, is a festive family affair at the PH Community Hall, beginning with kids’ activities at 3:30 p.m. followed by Santa and dinner at 5:30 p.m. 

The Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary In Lieu of Christmas Cards is a wonderful way to send out Christmas greetings, published in Coast Reporter. Send your donation and information to the Healthcare Auxiliary, PO Box 101, Madeira Park by Dec. 15 or drop off at the Serendipity Craft Fair. 

The Community Club Christmas Craft Fair is Saturday, Dec. 15, a fundraiser to maintain the PH Community Hall. What would we do without it? As Muriel Cameron is taking a well-deserved break from putting on this great event, a call goes out for volunteers, and donations for raffles, baskets and baking. Vendor tables are $25. Always a warm and wonderful place to shop, the Bargain Barn has a treasure trove of Christmas decorations as well as their amazing selection of almost everything – at bargain prices. Shop until Dec. 22. Please bring your own bags and, if possible, extra for the store. Jan. 16 is the first day of business in the New Year.
