Harbour Highlights

Pender Harbour & Egmont

The temperatures are peaking along with the poaching and pillaging of our oceans and waterways on the Sunshine Coast. Egmont is hard hit with those thinking it is the lawless, wild west. The residents and good folks of the Back Eddy Resort and Marina are fighting hard to protect and preserve by observing and reporting suspicious incidents and offences. Thank you, and I encourage everyone to do the same.

The Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) 24-hour hotline is 1-877-952-RAPP (7277). Make a note on your phone by self-texting or emailing to keep details observed. Visit Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Pacific website for info on regulations, licences and news. Simple practices that save wildlife are to cut up your plastic can ring holders and, if using plastic bags, keep them safely stored so they do not blow out of your car, boat or picnic location.

A most welcome summer tradition has returned to the Madeira Park Legion – Christmas in July this Saturday, July 21. Come enjoy a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings and live music from Skinny Jimmy for just $15. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. but come early for fun and beverages in air conditioned comfort, and try your luck at the meat draw.

The Pender Harbour Health Centre summer hours are Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 4 to Aug. 29 as well as usual hours Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nurse will be on duty Saturdays.

Harbourside Friendship July 26, 10:30 a.m. at the PH Community Hall will feature the music of Lynn and Reg Dickson. Lunch is served at noon.

A campfire ban is in effect as of this Saturday, July 21.

Enjoy and cherish our Sunshine Coast. Be safe; keep your family members kids, elderly and pets out of hot cars and hydrated.
