Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

This weekend it is all about the Halfmoon Bay Country Fair.

Saturday, July 8, at 10 a.m. is the Kids’ Fishing Derby for ages 12 and under. Register at the Halfmoon Bay Café at 9:45 a.m. Start 10 to 11 a.m., with hot dogs, drinks and prizes at 11:30 a.m.

At 6 p.m., there’s a family BBQ sockeye salmon dinner at Coopers Green Park, for $15 per person.

The dinner plus dance costs $30 at Coopers Green Hall, with music by Playback starting at 7:30 p.m. Bar service will be available. Tickets at Halfmoon Bay General Store, Welcome Woods Market and Pastimes in Sechelt.

Sunday, July 9, the Fair kicks off at 9 a.m. with a fabulous pancake breakfast in Coopers Green run by the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary.

At 9 a.m. in Connor Park, register for the 3.5 mile (5.6 km) trophy race. Run starts at 9:30 a.m. and finishes in Coopers Green.

At 11 a.m., the Fair is officially opened. Enjoy kids games hosted by Halfmoon Bay Community School and Childcare; bingo, a cake walk and a silent auction organized by Halfmoon Bay Community Association; and vendors with handmade arts and novelties.

There will be a beer garden, sponsored by Persephone Brewing and run by Sunshine Coast Association for Community Living; and hot food put on by our Volunteer Fire Dept.

Listen to the music from the open stage featuring local musicians.

And don’t forget to wear you super hero outfit. There will be prizes for the best costume – male, female and three young heroes.

Volunteers are still needed; this truly is a community fair where our schools, childcare, hospital auxiliary, volunteer fire department and many others put on the fun and are able to raise much-needed funds. This community has so much to offer – be part of it. To volunteer Saturday afternoon, be at Coopers Green Park at 3 p.m. To volunteer Sunday report to the Halfmoon Bay Community Association tent any time during the day starting at 7 a.m. until closing at 5 p.m.
