Halfmoon Bay: Want to help out at Homework Club?

Please consider volunteering once a week at Halfmoon Bay Community School’s Homework Club. Duties include preparing a healthy snack, welcoming kids after their day at school and helping with homework.

Please consider volunteering once a week at Halfmoon Bay Community School’s Homework Club. Duties include preparing a healthy snack, welcoming kids after their day at school and helping with homework. The club provides a safe and happy place for kids to be after school, they get their homework done and have some fun too! They start to prepare at 2 p.m. and finish at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you enjoy working with kids and have an hour a week to spare, please consider joining them! Halfmoon Bay Elementary School and the Sechelt Library are jointly holding a Lobster Fest fundraiser to provide a playground structure that offers children with diverse abilities the opportunity to play alongside one another. Tickets ($100 each) are available at the school office. The Lobster Fest will be held at Rockwater Secret Cove Resort on Saturday, Sept. 28; doors open at 4 p.m., dinner is at 5 p.m. There will be door prizes, a 50/50 draw and a silent auction. Contact the school for more information. 

HMB Community Dialogue Series is open to the public. Hosted by Lori Pratt, SCRD Area B Halfmoon Bay director, it takes place at Coopers Green Hall Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.

Wildfire at Your Doorstep, a presentation in the HMB School Library, Oct. 3, 6:30 p.m., is open to the whole community. Brought to you by HMB Citizens Association; Fire Chief Ryan Daley and Dave Lasser of Sunshine Coast Community Forest will moderate. Get some inside information as to what our province can do, what our community can do and what you can do.

Pickleball started for the fall season on Sept. 23 and runs until Dec. 4. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Halfmoon Bay Community School gym. Sponsored by Halfmoon Bay Community Association. Racquets and balls are provided, all skill levels welcome. Cost is $4 per session. Halfmoon Bay Com-munity Association Apple-Fest Committee proudly presents the 11th annual AppleFest at Coopers Green on Oct. 20, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Celebrated musician Simon Paradis and friends will be performing at Coopers Green Hall Nov. 23 to promote his new CD. Simon’s talent and musical ability are at their best among friends. Tickets will be on sale soon.
