The Halfmoon Bay Country Fair weekend starts July 13 with the traditional Kids’ Fishing Derby sponsored by Halfmoon Bay Café and General Store, 10 to 11 a.m. It’s always wonderful to watch these youngsters get their fishing experience. Prizes are given and everyone gets hot dogs and a drink at 11:30 a.m. outside the Café.

In the evening, enjoy a BBQ sockeye salmon dinner and dance at Coopers Green Park with music by Playback. Tickets for $35 are at Halfmoon Bay General Store, Welcome Woods Market, and Pastimes in Sechelt. Dinner is at 6 p.m.; music starts at 7:30 p.m. This event always sells out, so get tickets early. A limited number of dinner only tickets for $20 will be sold at the door.

All the Fun at the Country Fair is in Coopers Green Park, July 14. The Healthcare Auxiliary puts on a wonderful pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Centre Stage will showcase the talents of local musicians from noon until close at 5 p.m. Over 30 artisans, potters, painters, crafters and booths will be on display with what’s happening in Halfmoon Bay. Take a look at plans for the proposed new Community Hall for Coopers Green.

Lots of kids’ games will be hosted by HMB Elementary School and Child Daycare: donkey rides, bingo, cake walk, and a silent auction. New this year is panning for gold.

Great eats (burgers and hot dogs) will be prepared by the HMB Volunteer Fire Department. Prizes are offered all day at the Fair, as well as a 50/50 draw and a fantastic silent auction. Anything you would like to donate to promote, contact Toni Morris at tonimorris@dccnet.com before July 7.

For July 14, we still need cakes, cakes, cakes or pies for the cake walk. Halfmoon Bay Community Association is always in need of volunteers willing to help with bingo, tent set-up and take-down, traffic control and clean up the park patrol when we are done.

This community has so much to offer – see how you can be part of it. Contact Terry at teknight@telus.net or 604-885-5034.
