Christmas? Bring it on!

I received notice to renew my licence this week and bought a new espresso machine. It is not the first time it has happened. These two seemingly unrelated events are the reason behind why my signature looks the way it does.

I received notice to renew my licence this week and bought a new espresso machine. It is not the first time it has happened. These two seemingly unrelated events are the reason behind why my signature looks the way it does. What feels like a lifetime ago (15 years actually), I had these circumstances line up like some kind of celestial phenomenon. My desire to put my new machine through its paces ended up in a literal hair-raising caffeine supercharged session and I fairly floated to the ICBC office. Forms were filled, pictures taken and then came time to create the signature that would be embossed on the card itself. My over-caffeinated brain couldn’t make my hand do what had been my John Hancock for 30+ years. After several failed attempts to replicate the past, and with an increasingly annoyed bureaucrat looking on, I made a new scribble up on the spot. It may not look like much but my son has yet to forge it with any success, so far.

Our Community Association is working overtime to keep the season merry and support our local craftspeople. Our annual Christmas Craft Fair is going virtual with a link to what your friends and neighbours have on offer, ready for the giving. It is a most important year to support local, so our artisan community can enjoy a more joyful holiday and you can give unique and thoughtful gifts. Check out robertscreekcommunity.com/christmas-craft-fair for the growing list of vendors. To join, email your business name, contact info, web and social media links and a logo to [email protected]. I will see you there! Virtually, of course.

The Grinch that is COVID can’t crush the Christmas spirit here in the Creek. This year marks the 22nd year our Community Association will be hosting Christmas dinner! Of course it will be different, the format is a take-home Christmas meal to be picked up on the Sunday before Christmas. Sign up forms at the General Store, deadline is Dec. 4. Join the Facebook event page “Christmas in the Creek 2020 Virtually.” A venture like this doesn’t run itself, it is fuelled by the great Gumboot Nation citizens. To volunteer or donate, call the elf in charge, Debra Dee, at 604-741-8669

Don’t forget, the Wednesday Market is still happening, in the hall from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Streamkeepers are at it again, removing invasive plants every last Saturday of the month. Be at the Lower Road bridge over Roberts Creek, west of the Legion, 3064 Lower Rd. on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. Please bring gloves, eye protection and small or large clippers if you have them, wear a mask and be mindful of physical distancing throughout the event. Also, bring rain gear (if raining) and outdoor/gardening clothes that include long sleeves, sturdy boots and a hat. If anyone has a pickup or a trailer to take the green waste, that would be most helpful! Questions? Email [email protected]
