Earlier this spring local singer/songwriter Charlotte Wrinch was announced as the winner of the March 2013 Best Folk Song by Akademia, a music industry promotional company based in Beverly Hills, California, for her songThe String. The song was recorded on the Sunshine Coast at Ray Fulbers Strait Sound Studio and features Barry Taylor on drums and Paul Steenhuis on bass and electric guitar. To celebrate, Wrinch has planned a mini summer solo tour of Gibsons with three shows.
First, you can hear her at Boomer's Burger Bar in Sunnycrest Mall, Gibsons, this Friday, July 12, at 6:30 p.m., the following weekend at Chaster's in Bonniebrook Lodge on Friday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m., and then, on Saturday, July 20, at Pioneer Square from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of the Music in the Landing concert series.
Our Coast Show
The current show at The Landing Gallery on Marine Drive in Gibsons (Sunshine Coast Artist Co-operative) is Our Magnificent Sunshine Coast, inspired by the spectacular coastal landscape and views. Opening night is this Saturday, July 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. All are welcome.
Garden music
Anagram Duo (Anna Lumiere and Graham Ord) will perform some original music this Saturday, July 13, in the first of what they hope will be a series of garden concerts in Upper Gibsons (1222 Carole Place) from 10 to 11:30 a.m., weather permitting.Admission is by donation ($5 to 10 suggested) and all proceeds will go to a friends development aid organization in Mali, called Dimmbal.ch.
The association promotes sustainable development including a rural hospital, schools, wells, a microcredit lending source and a cultural artefact bank.The garden concerts will support different causes each time. The music featured this time will be from the family repertoire, and will only go ahead if the weather cooperates. They will play two 30-minute sets with a lemonade and bocce ball intermission.

The Celtic School of Music holds its annual gala concert in Sechelt at Rockwood pavilion at 7:30 p.m., also this Friday. Tickets usually go fast for this one, so check at 604-886-4768 before you go.
Catch the Summer Sizzle fundraiser at Roberts Creek Hall on Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for an evening of great blues, R&B and funk with featured artists including Russell Marsland, Karen Graves, Mark Vance and Darryl Havers from Brickhouse.

The Sechelt Legion and Chelseas Charity presents Playback, classic rock from Paul Dwyer, Gord McLennan, Mike Evans and Leigh Waterston this Friday night starting at 7:30 p.m. Fundraising tickets are $10 at Re/Max Oceanview Realty in advance only. No tickets at the door.
Clark Studio
Artist Todd Clark's studio is open again to the public this Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. He's at 895 Charman Rd. in Gibsons. See more on www.toddclarkstudio.com.
Pianist
Award-winning pianist/composer Peter Arnstein will be performing fundraising concerts at two venues.His program will range from classical gems to whimsical jazz, and he will also present the Canadian debut of his composition inspired by our rain forests: Hypnotico: Under the Shade of the Cedars.
Concerts are next Saturday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Highland Centre, 657 Highland Rd. in Roberts Creek (opposite the junction of Highway 101 with Lower Road, second driveway on left to parking and performance centre).
He will also perform next Sunday, July 21, at 2 p.m. at the Pender Harbour School of Music in Madeira Park. Tickets are adult $25, aged 18 and under $15 and are available at many outlets including at the door. GPAG events
The Gibsons Public Art Gallery (GPAG) reports that they had a great Bag of Books Sale on Canada Day and they thank their sponsor, the SC Credit Union.
Baroque and Blue are playing at the Gallery this Saturday, July 13, at 7 p.m.

Highway 101 Music
The Highway 101 Music Festival of rock and country sounds gets underway next Friday to Sunday, July 19 to 21, at the Pender Harbour Lion's Park (near the golf course). The lineup includes Odds, local indie rock band Sinmobile and local band Brothers in Farms, Trama with Jerry Doucette, the Mop Tops (a Beatles tribute band) and some country tunes from Johnny & Cash.
