Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Jan. 28 to Feb. 1:
In an update to a file reported last week, the four used tires stolen from a business in the 5600 block of Wharf Road in Sechelt, are described as distinctive in size and suitable only for a small number of vehicles. The tire make and model is Michelin XDS-2 245/70R19.5.
Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to call RCMP at 604-885-2266 and reference file 14-575.
On Jan. 28, police attended a dog bite complaint in the 400 block of King Road in Gibsons, after the victim advised a stocky, reddish mixed breed dog attacked her dog.
While attempting to break up the fight, the dog bit the victim several times, drawing blood. The owner of the dog did not offer any assistance and left the scene with his dog without leaving any information. The owner is described as a white male in his 60s, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall with the slim build.
Police made patrols, but were unable to locate anyone fitting this description.
The matter has been turned over to the Gibsons bylaw officer.
Overnight on Jan. 28, a vandal damaged several vehicles parked in the 1000 block of Gibsons Way.
The vandal used some kind of tool to carve long scratches or crude pictures onto the hoods of the vehicles. Anyone with any information about this mischief is asked to contact RCMP and reference file 14-608.
On Jan. 28, around 5:30 p.m., a thief stole a motorized scooter that was parked in the Flume Beach parking lot in Roberts Creek. The scooter is a 2009 white Honda Jazz and the licence plate is S08463. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP and reference file 14-618.
On Jan. 28, two shoplifters were reported at a business in the 5500 block of Highway 101 in Sechelt.
The suspects, who were also intoxicated at the time, both started taking items off the shelves and when confronted by staff, became verbally abusive before fleeing the premises on foot. Police located the pair and lodged them in cells until they sobered up. Charges of theft and uttering threats are being recommended.
A Coast resident reported nearly falling victim to an email scam after receiving an email supposedly from the Canada Revenue Agency advising the resident that she was owed some money due to an income tax miscalculation.
The email requested the resident's Social Insurance Number and contact information as well as a credit card number in order to process the repayment. The resident provided all this information before realizing this was a scam. The resident immediately cancelled her credit card and was advised to contact Trans Union and Equifax to alert them to possible fraud in her name.
Police advise the public to always check the veracity of any emails that promise money or prizes before responding to them.
On Jan. 29, a Coast resident reported a scam email depicting a Tom CRIST charitable foundation that was randomly choosing people to receive part of a lottery win.
The email does not ask for any information or money, but asks the recipient to click on a couple of links which could possibly allow viruses to access the computer. RCMP are reminding the public that they need to exercise caution whenever they receive any sort of email or communication promising anything that seems too good to be true.
On Jan. 30, a witness reported a vehicle stuck in the ditch and a possible impaired driver requiring assistance in the 6300 block of Reeves Road.
While police were en route, the driver managed to extricate himself and was seen driving away before police pulled him over. The driver, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication, was given a roadside alcohol-screening test, which resulted in a 'fai;' reading. The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
On Jan. 30, a fire was set inside the men's washroom at the Gibsons Information Centre between 4 and 9 p.m. The vandals filled the waste paper basket with paper towel, dragged it over to inside the toilet stall and set fire to it. No major damage other than burns marks on the concrete floor. Anyone with information on this matter are asked to contact Const. MacPherson at 604-885-2266 and reference file 2014-683.
On Feb. 1, RCMP pulled over an erratic driver on Sunshine Coast Highway near Mason Road in Sechelt. The driver exhibited multiple signs of being impaired by alcohol and was given a roadside alcohol-screening test, which resulted in a 'warn' reading. The driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for three days.
