I am writing to share my dismay and outrage that First Nations residential school survivors still have to fight to be acknowledged and compensated for their experiences and continual losses.
This is Canada's shame and yet we talk so little about it in the media, in our schools and educational facilities. Can we wake up as a country and province and do the right thing, right the wrongs of the past, or are we going to just bury our heads in the sand, go shopping and sell off our resources to the highest bidder?
Every issue environmentally or historically is landing on the shoulders of First Nations communities to fight for their rights or protect the land. Why are we not in uproar along side? Why are we not forcing our government to compensatethe survivors? Do we really want ouryoung children to carry the burden of the historical shame of their country's actions in the past and present? I for one do not and callupon fellow Canadians to take a stand and speak up. Enough is enough.
