The U14 Thunderbirds opened its home schedule with a thrilling 4-4 draw with West Vancouver Spurways at Kinnikinnick Park in Sechelt last Saturday.
West Van opened the scoring before the Thunderbirds got one back when Kai Hansen broke towards the goal and showed great composure as he went around the last defender then the keeper to calmly slot home.
Before the break, the visitors went up 2-1 after they were awarded a penalty. Keeper Isaac Oka did very well to get a hand to the strong shot, but it was not enough.
The second half saw West Van go up 3-1 before the Thunderbirds stormed back starting with another by Kai after some great passing by Ave Kooyman and Taylor Shearsmith.
With Will Magnussen running rampant in midfield, Cole Schutz powered in for a strike to tie it up. With Brady Bathgate and Angelo Pinsonnault pushing up from fullback and support from Jaimie Mundy and Coulter Prestage, Wyatt Baldwin hit the back of the net for a 4-3 lead. With the game running down and the visitors pressing the Thunderbirds fell just short as they conceded a late one.
U15 boys
The Scorpions defeated the Killarney Gladiators 6-3 in a tough battle in East Vancouver.
Everett August scored the first goal, on a penalty kick. That was followed by two goals by Jordan Kammerle.
Evan Griffin, Cole Cooney, Bradley Huddlestone, Quintin Towert, Neil Sorensen, Jordan Dunk and Ben Luporini used their skill and strength to evade the aggressive tackles from the Gladiators.
Centre backs Keegan Inkster and Liam Rankin were the Scorpions' workhorses, keeping the strong and speedy strikers at bay.
Goalie Keeran Peel used his huge drop-kick to start the Scorpions' attacks.
Duncan Armstrong outmaneuvered six Gladiators in an attempt for his hat trick goal, only to have the shot stopped by the keeper.
Finn Rogers' determination paid off with the sixth and final Scorpion goal of the game.
U18 boys
The Spartans lost its home opener at Kinnikinnick last Saturday 2-0 to the Richmond Athletics.
The opposing coaches persistent harassment of the referee and his assistants spoiled an otherwise competitive game. Spartans' goalie Jordan Wilson kept the Spartans in the game during the first 45 minutes, finally conceding a goal on the last kick of the half.
The Spartans, coached by Sean Whalen and Bob Hoy, mounted a spirited fight-back in the second half, but ran afoul of the offside rule during several breakaways on net. The visitors scored late again in the second half, leaving the opposing coach to moan about B.C. Ferries and the weather.
The Spartans go in search of their first road win of the season this Saturday, playing the North Vancouver Fury.
