A 26-year-old international mezzo soprano with the professional polish of a much older singer will be giving a one-time only concert in Gibsons next Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m.

Rebecca Fox returns to the Coast to visit her mother Adrienne Fox, owner of Truffles Café in Gibsons, and to sing a selection of arias and songs with the piano accompaniment of Coast musician and teacher Tom Kellough at the Heritage Playhouse.

"The last time she appeared here (in April of last year) people were talking about it for weeks afterwards," said Adrienne. "Her voice is so warm and she has such stage presence."

Fox has an old world sound since many of her coaches are from Europe. She lives in Berlin and has been perfecting her German speaking abilities before her successful audition for the Hanns Eisler Hochschule for Music program. She's toured to Italy singing selections from Barber of Seville and Carmen to director Luchino Visconti, and is currently in Toronto being coached by performer, composer and teacher Peter Tiefenbach who has collaborated with a who's who of leading singers and instrumentalists including Maureen Forrester.

"I think I'm becoming quite fearless when it comes to my sound," Rebecca said. "It's all about trusting it and I think it's really coming."

Rebecca learned to sing as a child learning from her mother who taught voice.

"She took off at age five," added Adrienne. "Her first performance was as a child at a seniors' home in White Rock."

Fox will be singing opera and some musical theatre on March 3.

Tickets for the concert are $20 available at Truffles, 264 Gower Point Road, or by phone at 604-886-4545. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the performance.
