Starting being positive

Sadly, yet again, Keith Thirkell is making allegations about our council that he knows are inaccurate (Coast Reporter letters, Jan. 11).

In his letter, his claim that council is engaging in activities contrary to the law does a disservice to the integrity of our mayor and council. Even worse, and sadly, he is being disrespectful of the District's professional staff, who are obligated to ensure the provisions of the Community Charter are upheld. Thirkell knows this.

He should also know that appointments to committees are handled in camera to protect the personal information of potential candidates (that's S.90(1)(a) of the Community Charter, not (k) as Thirkell incorrectly claims). Again, District staff oversee such matters to ensure they are in accordance with the laws.

It's time to stop making wild conjectures and unfounded allegations about council's activities. Instead, how about starting to use your energy to create something positive and useful for Sechelt?
